2021 in review: Expo 2020 Dubai, Gitex, AI modules and 360° tours

The about page marks 2021 as "AI modules and 360° tours", and the events calendar backs it up. In October the Eziline team was at Expo 2020 Dubai, visiting the Pakistan, UAE, Italy, China, India and Russia pavilions, then at Gitex Dubai 2021 the same month and the Pak Tech Summit in Istanbul at the end of it. In May the CEO toured Stanford University, and the team's own tour went to Naran and Kaghan in March.

Expo and Gitex

Expo 2020 (held in 2021) was the first big international gathering after the pandemic year, and the pavilion visits are documented one by one on this site. Gitex 2021 was about business: meetings with Gulf clients and partners for ERP, mobile and the new AI modules. The Istanbul summit connected the company with the Pakistani tech diaspora in Turkey.

AI modules and 360° tours

Two product lines matured in 2021. The AI modules are add-ons to our business systems, computer-vision and analytics features for sectors like education, banking, healthcare, retail and property, built on the machine-learning work that started in 2018. The 360° virtual tours grew from a few property projects into a service with its own portfolio, as showrooms, campuses and hotels needed to be visited remotely.

The technology of 2021

Flutter 2 shipped in March with stable web and desktop support, and it became our standard for new cross-platform apps; most of the mobile products in today's catalogue are Flutter. On the web, Next.js and static generation were increasingly the right answer for marketing sites, which is the route our own site would eventually take.

  • 13th anniversary in January; Naran and Kaghan tour in March; Stanford visit in May.
  • Expo 2020 Dubai, Gitex 2021 and the Pak Tech Summit Istanbul in October.
  • AI modules and 360° tours as product lines; Flutter 2 as the mobile default.

Looking ahead

The Gulf trip generated a long list of follow-ups, and 2022 was planned around partnerships: MoUs with universities and professional bodies at home, and a European tour in the autumn to turn the 2019 contacts into joint ventures. EZIERP was to be presented as a cloud SaaS product to partners in Italy, with the POS and LMS to follow. The AI modules would get sector-specific packaging. On the technology side, the team expected the year to be about incremental improvements, Flutter 3, PHP 8.1, better static-site tooling, rather than a revolution. That expectation lasted until the last week of November, when ChatGPT launched and every roadmap in the industry, including ours, was rewritten.
